Can't believe this year is almost over! Open beta is definitely looking like first half of 2020, but we are pushing to get to a closed beta before the end of the year. This will be our first big test for our blockchain and wallet. We have release candidates for both, finally!, so we only have one more task: templatizing the game assets (cards). That's happening now, actually, and I'll bring up a release date in our check-in this week. It might help get us over the hump if we put a hard deadline that isn't 'anytime before December 31, 2019'.
BTW, if you're signed up to be a playtester, you'll have access to the closed beta.
@scott said in Blockchain and CCG:
"why solve puzzles for booster packs when you could get bitcoins?"
because if i had Bitcoins I would use them to buy booster packs and that just seems like extra steps
So the idea is that you digitally open from a booster, purchase, trade, are given or win the digital card and then you are able to print it. However, I am sure there will be ways to print cards you dont own if you would like an "illegitimate" print.
As for launching the tech side this year, that's something patrick will have to discuss. If you are interested in printing out and play testing the game currently, we are looking for help on the playtest front. Just let me know!
Sorry about that, @stl1988. I had to rollback the database. It was a head-slappingly good reminder to backup data more than once a week. Anyway, thank you for re-registering. Things should be a lot more smooth around here, now.
Currently cards would not be re-nameable. As for combining cards, if a completely new card is created it would likely have a pre-set, new name. If it's an upgraded version, or a "leveled up" version, maybe just a level indicator using the same base name. For cards that are "socketed", they would use the same name as the host card. (the card being socketed to the host card would be destroyed.
@shawnstoppable Just like in any other game, if there is inconsistency, then you will be called out for it. At higher level RELs there would definitely be deck checks, just as there are in any other major game. Judges would be looking both for legal deck lists and card ownership as well as anything that may be "marking" cards.
