How will printing be handled?

I saw mentioned that card shops would have their own printers for cards. Would we have to go to card shops to print our cards or could we print our own? If we print our own is there some sort sort of thickness requirement for the paper/cardstock or are players intended to use the cardbacks from other ccgs to maintain the right feel and thickness? What about players who might not have access to other cards?

Anyone can print the cards. As long as the deck is consistent in how the cards are printed, any method is fine.

Personally the best way is to just print on regular paper and sleeve it with another card (Spoils, MTG, Pokemon) as backing.

These feel the best for shuffling and also help maintain a consistent feel.

@cryptogogue_ken What about the players who are interested in Volition but haven't played another ccg so do not have a stockpile of old cards?

good point. Any ideas on a solution? They could just print on thicker paper. Again, the idea is the deck is consistent. Just like any other tcg/ccg with "officially printed cards" the deck needs to be consistent. In official tournaments for some games (MTG included) you have to be careful about using foils and non-foils together as they are not consistent.

In theory, they could buy regular old playing cards and sleeve them up. Those are pretty cheap.

But yeah, since it's print and play it's going to require players to do a little more work than usual. That's just the nature of this model.

That'd be a good way to get consistency. Clever idea for new-to-ccg gamers.

Land for MTG is cheap and at some stores they will just give them to you. Also after FNM you will find piles of common and uncommon that people leave behind.
